About

Why Diagnostics Come First

Two people with identical back pain can have completely different causes. One may have a disc problem, another a joint issue, another a posture pattern putting strain on their nerves. Guessing wastes time and money. At Rigby Chiropractic in Tremonton, we start by gathering the information we need to make clear, confident recommendations.

Advanced diagnostics give us a detailed look at your spine's structure, how your body holds itself and how well your nerves and circulation are working.

How Our Diagnostic Tools Work

Depending on your symptoms and history, your exam may include some or all of the following:

  • Digital X-ray.Shows the alignment of your spine, the spacing between vertebrae, signs of disc degeneration or arthritis, and structural issues like scoliosis. Digital imaging produces clear pictures quickly and uses less radiation than older film methods.
  • Posture analysis.Measures how your head, shoulders and hips are positioned relative to each other. Small shifts can reveal where your spine is under extra stress.
  • Nerve testing.Noninvasive tests that may assess nerve function, sensation and reflexes. These help us understand whether nerves are irritated or not performing as they should.
  • Circulation testing.Simple, painless checks of blood flow, especially in the feet and legs, which is important for patients with numbness, tingling or neuropathy.
  • Orthopedic and neurological exam.Hands-on tests of movement, strength, reflexes and sensation that complete the picture.

Conditions Diagnostics Help Us Evaluate

Thorough testing is valuable for nearly every patient, and especially for:

  • Back pain and neck pain that is new, severe or long-lasting
  • Sciatica, herniated disc and pinched nerve symptoms
  • Scoliosis and posture concerns
  • Arthritis and degenerative disc disease
  • Auto injury and whiplash, where documenting injuries matters
  • Headaches and migraines linked to neck structure
  • Neuropathy symptoms, including numbness, tingling, burning feet and balance problems

Our Diagnostic Approach in Tremonton

We only recommend tests that are clinically useful for your situation. Not everyone needs an X-ray, and we'll explain why we're suggesting any test before it's done.

After testing, Dr. Rigby sits down with you to review the findings in plain language. You'll see your images and measurements, understand what they mean and learn how they shape your options. That might include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, corrective care and rehab, or neuropathy care. If findings suggest a problem outside our scope, we'll refer you to the right specialist.

Diagnostics also give us a baseline. Progress exams let us compare results over time so you can see objective change, not just how you feel.

What Testing Feels Like

All of our diagnostic tests are noninvasive and painless. X-rays take just a few minutes; you'll stand or lie in specific positions while images are taken. Posture analysis involves standing naturally while measurements or photos are captured. Nerve and circulation tests may use sensors or gentle sensations on the skin.

Wear comfortable clothing without metal if possible. Most diagnostic work is completed during your first visit.

How Often Is Testing Repeated?

Initial testing happens at the start of care. Follow-up exams are typically scheduled at set points in your plan to measure progress. Repeat X-rays are only taken when they're likely to change your care, such as when tracking posture or structural correction.

Safety and Who Should Not Have an X-Ray

Digital X-rays use a low dose of radiation and are considered safe when clinically justified. We follow careful screening and shielding practices. X-rays are generally avoided if you:

  • Are pregnant or might be pregnant
  • Have had recent imaging of the same area that we can review instead

Please bring any recent X-rays, MRIs or reports to your visit. If you have sudden severe pain after trauma, loss of bladder control or new weakness, go to the emergency room first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do chiropractors take X-rays?
X-rays help chiropractors see spinal alignment, disc spacing, arthritis and structural problems that can't be detected by touch alone. They can also help rule out conditions where chiropractic care isn't appropriate. We take X-rays only when they're likely to affect your treatment plan.
Are chiropractic X-rays safe?
Digital X-rays use low levels of radiation and are considered safe when used appropriately. We screen every patient, use protective shielding when appropriate and avoid imaging during pregnancy. We only recommend X-rays when they provide information we need.
Do I need an X-ray before seeing a chiropractor?
Not always. Many patients can be evaluated with a physical exam alone. X-rays are often recommended after trauma, for severe or long-lasting pain, for older adults, or when corrective care is planned. We'll explain our reasoning before ordering any imaging.
What is posture analysis?
Posture analysis measures how your body is aligned while standing, such as head position, shoulder height and hip level. It helps reveal stress patterns on your spine and gives us a baseline to track improvement over time.
What does nerve testing show?
Nerve testing helps evaluate how well your nerves are sending signals and sensing touch, temperature or vibration. It is especially useful for neuropathy and pinched nerve symptoms, helping us understand severity and choose appropriate care.
